KOCHI: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on Tuesday apologized for
its "abominable" questions on Bollywood actresses' heights and odious
comparisons between women and rats in its Combined Graduate Level Exam
held on Sunday and said the two questions would not be considered for
evaluation.
TOI had on Monday highlighted the dodgy questions
that appeared in a nationwide exam attempted by about 10 lakh people.
Following the report, an enraged Kerala Women's Commission had demanded
an explanation for the "gender insensitive" question paper.
"It
is improper, abominable, substandard... we are very upset and deeply
sorry," SSC chairman A Bhattacharya said in a statement on Tuesday.
Bhattacharya said no one at the SSC had set the paper. Local teachers
were appointed to set a bank of questions and a panel of experts chose
from these to set a final paper, he said.
Kerala Women's
Commission chairperson K C Rosakutty had condemned the questions.
"Comparing women to animals is unjustifiable," she had told TOI.
