Highlights of the National Food Security Bill 2013
Coverage of two thirds population to get highly susidized foodgrains: Up to 75 percent of the rural population and 50 percent of the urban population will have uniform entitlement of 5 kg food grains per month at highly subsidized prices of Rs. 3, Rs. 2, Rs. 1 per kg for rice, wheat, coarse grains respectively.
2. Poorest of the poor continue to get 35 kg per household: The poorest of poor households would continue to receive 35 Kg food grains per household per month under Antyodaya Anna Yajna at subsidized prices of Rs 3, Rs 2 and Rs 1.
3. Special focus on nutritional support to women and children:

Lok Sabha on 26 August 2013 passed the National Food Security Bill 2013. The Bill seeks to give legal rights to get subsidized grains every month to 67 percent of the overall population (of which 75 percent is rural and 50 percent is urban population). The passage of the Bill in Parliament will guarantee 5 kilograms of rice, wheat and coarse cereals per month per person at the highly subsidised rates of 1-3 rupees a Kg.
